Learning is Change

What I'm learning: Make your own iPad Stylus for less than 10 cents! (via iLearn Technology)

This is just too cool. I want to make one right now, in fact.

iLearn Technology » Blog Archive » Make your own iPad Stylus for less than 10 cents!:

“One of our first-week of school activities was creating our own iPad stylus.  Since we are a one-to-one iPad environment, this seemed like a good beginning for everyone. We learned that to make a stylus, we first had to find some soft, conductive material.  A Google search informed us that we could use conductive foam (the kind that is used to pack electronics), conductive thread, conductive yarn (we thought this would be PERFECT for our pens but couldn’t get any delivered fast enough), or a Scotch Brite sponge.  I was a little skeptical of the Scotch Brite (it just seemed TOO easy) but it worked like a champ!”

What I'm Learning: P2PU (beta) | DIY U: Getting Started With Self Learning

This is going to be a fantastic course for actually becoming a life-long learner:

P2PU (beta) | DIY U: Getting Started With Self Learning:

“Create and share your personal learning plan with others who can help you.

So many great learning resources and communities out there, but how do I get started? How do I make plans, achieve goals, and hold myself accountable without traditional courses or grades?

In this group, based on The Edupunks’ Guide, we’ll write personal learning plans and try building relationships with people who can help us. “

Get Notified Whenever a Google Doc Changes

So I have trying to figure out a good way of receiving notification whenever a Google Doc is updated for a long time (I know you can set it up for spreadsheets, but even with the new commenting features, I still have trouble knowing when things are being edited and when I should jump in).

Well, here is something I stumbled into earlier this week:

1. Sign up for Synchronicity

2. Enable Google Docs syncing

3. Put the Google Docs folder that Synchronicity is using within your dropbox folder

Now, anytime that someone edits one of your docs and it syncs, you receive a Notification (Growl). Even better than that, I can click on the notification and preview the document to see what is going on in there without even having to open up my browser.

That is pretty cool.

What I am Learning: Wait, what does your startup do?

So, while I really hate the idea that everying must be put in terms of something that already exists, I know that it helps people to think about new ideas. I also think it can lead to some really interesting creations. So, if you are ever at a loss for what kind of startup to create, go here and click refresh a few times until it comes to you.

Oh, and if you are teacher, I think that having students go in and try and create the plans for the startup that they get from this site would yeald some awesome results.

Wait, what does your startup do?
