Learning is Change

We just had our first #TeamDaVinci hangout, and were talking about how we will collaborate during the sessions, specifically in regards to taking notes and sharing resources. While I love this community for and the network that has surrounded it already, I think we can make use of Google Docs/Drive for notes and resource sharing in a broader and more co-creative sense.

So, after the urging of #TeamDaVinci , I have set up a Google Drive folder for this purpose. I have set up a single notes document for folks to use (if you want to) during GTA so that we can all learn from one another rather than taking notes in our own gDocs. I have also created folders for our reference documents from Google and a folder for resource sharing.

Note: If you want to share something from your school/district, but don’t want to move it from its current location in your Drive, you can use the “Option-Drag” features (on a Mac, I think it is Control-Drag on a PC) to simply share the resource with our GTACHI folder without copying it or moving it. I hope that makes sense.

The link to the folder is: http://bit.ly/gtachishare

The direct link to the notes document we can use is: http://bit.ly/gtachi

Awesome. I know this was available in the original Google Talk, but it is nice to see this coming back together.

Make Phone Calls using the Hangouts Sidebar

Now we can make Video calls, or Phone calls using the Hangout Sidebar… here is the full info: http://goo.gl/eRco4

We were able to make phone calls from within a hangout invite dialog box for a little while now, or receive phone calls inside a hangout as well, but now we can do what many people have been missing: Initiate a Phone Call from the Hangout Sidebar interface.

Open up the Sidebar via the Green Hangouts symbol, then choose the Drop-down options… below the Snooze notifications area, we can also choose to initiate a phone call (like the ‘days of old’ with Google Voice).

Happy days are ‘hear’ again for those that want to use Google to make phone calls!

So, Collaborative writing was different in 1995, especially when Rachel and Chandler were involved (seriously, they are playing their characters from Friends in this 1995 informational video).

If the time-mark didn’t keep when I shared this, start at 7:02. It is awesome.

I’m planning on using this community throughout the year to help share resources. Here is one that I found this morning that I found extremely interesting.

It is a Principal’s guide to blended learning. I think that the perspective described here is one that isn’t being considered a lot and for those principals looking at Blended Learning, I think it could be valuable.
