Learning is Change

Are We Making Upside Down Investments In Education?

In this podcast episode I think through whether or not we are making upside down investments in develop curriculum and people within our schools and districts.

Just like if you are upside down in your house, you are paying more than it is worth, are we paying more than our curricular resources and own understanding of professional development can provide?

The #sxswedu Twitter Archive (for your data mining pleasure)

logo-1

I am a huge fan of learning from others, and I think one of the best ways to learn from #sxswedu is to look through all of the tweets. Unfortunately, they go by too fast to glean much of anything out of them other than people seem to be having a good time.

So, I created a twitter archive for every tweet using the #sxswedu hashtag. Once an hour, it pulls in new tweets and displays them in a summary, a dashboard, and in their raw form.

Here is the link to the archive: http://bit.ly/sxsweduarchive

Feel free to use these tweets however you see fit, but please share what you do with them, as I would love to see what uses others make of this data.

Also, if you want to create your own twitter archives, here are the instructions and template doc. However, if you want to create an archive as large as #sxswedu, you will need to import the scripts and the spreadsheet into “new sheets.”

Are you a Conference Sponge? #sxswedu

In this carcast I look at whether or not we need to define a new role for those who are learning from a conference that is taking place in another city. This isn’t about virtual attendance, but rather about having the time and space to learn from a conference through tweets and reflections from those who are attending live.

What do you think? Do we need a new role for learning through tweets?

K-12 Curriculum and Books now on Google Play

This may potentially be a game changer for how content is made available digitally. I don’t think Google is messing around when it comes to android tablets getting in the hands of kids.
