I had an idea last night:

What if #etmooc  had mentors? What if those mentors were responsible for curating a path through the mooc by selecting posts that told a particular story? What if there was a Middle School mentor that took posts and comments from around the “etmoocasphere” that supported and helped middle school teachers? They wouldn’t have to only be from middle school teachers, but rather providing an approach that not only filters out noise, but also teaches participants to filter for themselves. Since everyone’s #etmooc  experience is radically different, why not provide multiple paths through it?

Just a thought, but I spoke more about it in this video. What do you think?

  1. Hi Benjamin. Your idea of mentors can be expanded to peers, older students, community and business volunteers in mentor and facilitator roles. There are many natural mentors in more affluent communities with college backgrounds and broad work experiences. In high poverty areas there are fewer of these so organized programs need to be established to build the connections. That’s what I focus on at http://www.tutormentorexchange.net and write about in my http://tutormentor.blogspot.com articles.
