We just had our first #TeamDaVinci hangout, and were talking about how we will collaborate during the sessions, specifically in regards to taking notes and sharing resources. While I love this community for and the network that has surrounded it already, I think we can make use of Google Docs/Drive for notes and resource sharing in a broader and more co-creative sense.

So, after the urging of #TeamDaVinci , I have set up a Google Drive folder for this purpose. I have set up a single notes document for folks to use (if you want to) during GTA so that we can all learn from one another rather than taking notes in our own gDocs. I have also created folders for our reference documents from Google and a folder for resource sharing.

Note: If you want to share something from your school/district, but don’t want to move it from its current location in your Drive, you can use the “Option-Drag” features (on a Mac, I think it is Control-Drag on a PC) to simply share the resource with our GTACHI folder without copying it or moving it. I hope that makes sense.

The link to the folder is: http://bit.ly/gtachishare

The direct link to the notes document we can use is: http://bit.ly/gtachi

  1. This is great! All conferences/events should do this. We’ve started doing this with our teacher teams who attend events together (and with TeamHeinlein at GTAMTV!). So smart to make it GTA wide.

One thought- perhaps break up the shared notes doc by breakout session? That way you won’t overload the doc with 60+ folks all editing at once.

  5. I thought about breaking it up, but my experience is that by breaking it up you get less participation and not more.

However, if anyone gets “locked out” because too many people are in, we could have an overflow document that could also be in the folder for people to use and then we could copy it over. What do you think?

  9. Gotcha! Perhaps if you linked to other docs from the main one? Then they could all start from one, then click an embedded link to edit another doc (with a link back to the main doc on that one)? This way you solve the editing issue. Just found that at other GTAs, during the Unconference brainstorm, the doc got locked up quick!

However this is your jam, and your GTA, so totally your call! Just sharing some thoughts :)! Great work getting the collaboration going. Totally impressed and awed by this cohort.
