So, this is the thing we are all hoping for and worried about. Let’s please start figuring out what this means for us as teachers and leaders.

And so it’s now public! This is what Classroom does.
What does it mean for the Apps Scripts / Add-ons for EDU ecosystem as we know it? Would love to hear a variety of interpretations.

Ben Wilkoff right now the features look like I was expecting. I am wondering is it can be switched to a standards-based grade system. I agree with Jeremy Collins if there could be some “fake” classrooms (if possible) and pilots, but I would love to think through exactly how we would want to approach the pilot so we know in advance what we want and how we will check to see it it does those things.

The biggest worries I have heard are about what happens to all of the tools like Doctopus, Autocrat, LMS’s, social tools and others that might get squeezed out by Google playing in the space. Overall I think it is going to be wonderful, but I do worry about what we might lose (from an ecosystem perspective).

I guess I’m missing the “public” part. It’s still letting me know that I’ve registered and that I’ll be hearing from them soon.
As for the fears, the big SAS providers (Blackboard, Schoology, Moodle partners) can be (and are) unresponsive to the needs of individual institutions let alone individuals themselves. It would be fair to say that Google has never been great about customer service. So, when an institution needs something (a change in functionality or a data log, as examples) this lack of responsiveness will make it difficult to get buy-in at above the classroom level.
