This may be a popular quote to some, but it was new to me. Iâm intrigued by the idea of a classroom as a potential paradise. It begs the question, âIs your classroom a paradise?â

Iâm thinking of the popular bell hooks quote: âThe academy is not paradise. But learning is a place where paradise can be created. The classroom, with all its limitations, remains a location of possibility. In that field of possibility we have the opportunity to labor for ⦠an openness of mind and heart that allows us to face reality even as we collectively imagine ways to move beyond boundaries, to transgress. This is education as the practice of freedom.â Learning pathways let each individual create that âparadiseâ for themselves â yours certainly wouldnât look like mine, and vice versa!
