I really like this photo, I think it speaks volumes for how we should think about Ed Tech.

I like to think of this in terms of Driver’s Ed.  Cars are tools to get someplace.  But you have to learn how to use them.  It’s a tricky balance.  You don’t want to have to learn how to drive a car in rush hour on the Santa Monica freeway.  But you can’t stay in the parking lot for long either.

  4. I think there are pockets of teachers around the district doing amazing things to address the right side. I also feel that our current environment makes it more difficult than it needs to be and requires teachers to be willing to push the boundaries of what feels, or is explicitly said, to be acceptable. This forces many teachers to the left side, or to no tech at all.

    We’ve started a voluntary PLC for personalized / blended learning at my school and are doing a weekly email share out of classroom anecdotes, lessons, and support to keep us inspired and motivated to persevere. It will serve as an amazing resource when we reflect on our year and adjust for the next and has been really valuable as a teacher support. I’ve been pondering how to do something similar on a larger scale around the district because I love hearing what other teachers within these “pockets” are doing.
